Jeff has been teaching martial arts since 1997, first at Arena Martial Arts and then Brand X, which he opened in May of 1999. Jeff began his martial arts training in 1978, in Redlands Ca. with Tim Tackett. Through the years he trained in Tracy's Kenpo Karate Escrima, Boxing, and Tae Kwon Do. In the summer of 1991, Jeff found the Cepeda Martial Arts School. Training directly under Sifu Dan Cepeda, Jeff was awarded his black belt in the summer of 1997.
The Jeet Kune Do principle of taking what is useful and discarding what isn't has always influenced his martial arts training. Since achieving his black belt, Sifu Jeff has trained in Boxing, Brazilian Ju Jitsu, Jeet Kune Do, Arnis De Mano, and Krav Maga.
After having taken classes in many different reality based martial arts, Jeff chose to bring Krav Maga to Brand X, with a firm belief that it is the best reality based system today. He is a licensed Krav Maga Instructor and continues advanced training at the Krav Maga National Training Center (KMNTC) Expert Series in Los Angeles. In 2003 he attended two Complete Combat Seminars given by Bas Ruten (K1), Amir Perets (Israeli Sea Commandos), and Darren Levine (Chief Instr. KMNTC), focusing on Submissions, Weapons, and Third Party defense. He is the Head Instructor at Brand X Martial Arts.
Having played collegiate sports and coached high school swimming and water polo, Jeff is well aware of how strength and conditioning could affect an athletes performance. In the fall of 2003 Jeff came across CrossFit. He became a certified instructor and has added CrossFit classes to the Brand X line up to improve our combat athletes performance.
